REVIEW ON SKINMISO PORE BEAUTY NOSE PACK

If you are a fan of Korean beauty products, I am sure you would know about this famous Skinmiso pore pack.  I was really excited when I saw this in My HiShop August Beauty Box.  I really want to try this.


The package comes with words in English to help non-Korean to understand how to use the pack.  It even contains picture as instructions.  So, you would definitely understand how to use this.

1.  Wash the nose with water and put Step1 on nose.
2.  After getting rid of Step1, remove the whiteheads and blackheads with cotton swabs or SkinMiso Comedo Remover.
3.  Then wash the nose with water and put Step2 for 10minutes.
4.  Clear Step2 away and put few drop of Step3.


As I don't have Step3, I think the results will be a little different.

Here is the the picture of my nose with Step1.  Step contains one nose sheet containing the essence to remove blackheads and whiteheads.  It smell something like a herbal tea which is okay to me.  The essence is just nice and not much extra inside the packet.  The nose sheet is comfortable and soft just like a face sheet mask. I can feel a little tingly sensation that lasted only for few seconds.  It is not painful at all.  The sheet mask will make the whiteheads and blackheads come out.  Mine seems clean so there isn't any gross thing to show you.  I tried to pinch my nose so hard but seriously there isn't any.  So, this Step1 is really effective in making all the whiteheads and blackheads come out on its own.  However, stop or remove it if you feel painful.

The Step2 smelt the same as Step1.  The sheet is also comfortable and soft just like a face mask. This Step2 does cool down and reduce the redness on my nose because I love to pinch my nose too hard =(  .  My pores seems smaller and cleaner too =) .  The nose is really clean.  It even get rid of the whiteheads I have in one go.  I think it would be better if you use it weekly before those whiteheads and blackheads build up.

Overall, I think this is really effective in removing blackheads and whiteheads and much better than Biore pore pack in removing blackheads and whiteheads although the Biore pore packs are much cheaper.

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ESSENCE, SERUM, LOTION, AMPOULE, EMULSION, GEL, TONER, BOOSTER,CREAM, FLORAL WATER&FINISHER?

10 years ago, skincare products were much simpler. I only have cleanser, toner and also moisturizer which people called cream. The extra products that I have would be sunblock I guess. Fast forward ten years and we have so many products out there in the market until I can’t even differentiate what is essence, serum , lotion, cream and even booster! One day I was looking at my aunt skincare products and asked her what is the differences between essence and cream but I didn't get the exact answer that I want! Some would just tell me to put it after toner or something. I got confused with so many things to put and I usually use mixture of brands and products.  I was so lost with all these skincare products terms.

So, today I am just going to share the meaning of those products in layman term.  Hopefully, it will be of help to you =).  Here is another newer pictorial form for better understanding.

Okay, let’s start with the most difficult one


1. TONER/MIST/SKIN REFINER/SKIN BALANCER/SOFTENER/LOTION(Japanese toner)
Okay, this is as the name suggested they are actually toner. While products in western countries are known as toner,

A) Korean name their toner as Mist/toner/ Skin Refiner/ Skin balancer/ Skin hydrator/lotion/skin/water .

B) Japanese on the other hand name their toner lotion or softener.
For examples,

C)Taiwanese just name their toner as toner to lessen the confusion but their products work like Japanese and Korean lotion.

D) Western toner is so much easier to understand. It will always end with the word toner.

Low pH toner -you probably heard this from reddit or some blogger about using low pH toner.  It just means using toner that has pH of about 4-5.5 for the purpose of lowering down the pH of your face.  While it is already debunked that pH of your face doesn't matter, using low pH toner is recommended for those that have water above pH7 and for those that use cleanser above pH 6 to 9.

E) Mist are hydrating toner water that contains cooling properties and hydration.  How fine the mist comes out depend on the nozzle.  It is mostly in bottle.  Koreans or Asian usually carry this to just spray on the face when it is hot or they feel dry without touching face.  It is most use in summer.  It is best to use hydrating mist instead of just plain water.

Basically, the texture in this categories are watery just like water.  Those hydrating ones can be just sprayed on the face. Most Japanese lotion can be use on compressed mask sheets and used as sheet masks.

Western toners are usually those clarifying one where you will use the cotton pad to swipe across the face.  It can't be use as mask !

Western and Asian toner are not the same although it is usually use after cleaning (There is some certain products that the toner or lotion are used as 3rd products because of adding booster) .

There is a difference between how western and Asian toner are used.  Do not assume that Asian lotion and Western toner are the same.





2. ESSENCE, SERUM, AMPOULE

A) Ampoule contains high concentration of ingredients target for specific purpose. They are more expensive than serum. This is because ampoule contains the lightest texture, penetrate into the skin faster and provide the fastest results within a short time. Normally, hydrating or makeup ampoules are use by the makeup artist for a bridal wedding to make the makeup last long. There are also many types of ampoules and they are generally in form of vial to avoid the highly reactive ingredients get oxidized by the air.

B) Serum contain higher concentration of ingredients than essence.  It also target specific skin concern. Therefore they are more expensive than essence. Serums also contain thicker texture than essence. There are many types of serum ranging from anti-aging capsules serum, pore tightening serum and brightening serum.  There are oil based and water based serum.

- Examples of water based serum.  Some has higher water texture in them.

- Oil based serum are in oil form for stabilizing properties.  It usually contains very UV ingredients such as Vitamin C or retinol.

-  There are also serum that is in form of BHA, AHA which is supposed to be treated as 'actives' since they have low pH.

C) Essence contains concentrate of ingredients for specific purposes. It is the least concentrate among ampoule and serum. Essence are generally watery and light so don't mistake it with toner. Some are called treatment water but it is actually essence.

whitening essence to brighten the face, pore control essence to control the pore and skin repairing essence.

- There is All in one Essence from the trending 2018 skincare diet (using only 3-5 products for skincare routine).  It is an essence that covers the step of toner, fermented products, essence and moisturiser.

The level of concentrate ingredients from the highest one would be ampoule > serum> essence .
The level of texture from the lightest one would be essence > ampoule  > serum

3. LOTION, CREAM, EMULSION and GEL

B)Japanese lotion means it is toner. Example of Japanese lotion would be the Kose Sekkisei Lotion , Kikumasamune sake high moist lotion, Kiku masamune Japanese Sake Brewing Skin care Lotion

C)Emulsion is a light moisturizer. Mostly people with combination skin or oily skin would choose emulsion because of the lighter texture but still provide the moisture needed. Normally it is water based.

D) Cream is thicker since it contains more oil inside.  Cream provides more oil for those with dry skin or for usage during winter.  However, snail cream are usually very light.  There are many type of creams for examples whitening, anti-aging, hydrating and for acne. In 2019, there is a new Vegan Korean brand cream.  There is also some that called the gel moisturiser cream.

Massage cream- it is cream that people use for massage on the face. Basically, you apply the massage a little on the face, then massage the face until it become transparent. then rinse the face away with it.  It is better for dry skin during winter.

Gel moisturizers usually contain humectants like silicone or gylerin for oily skin. Gel is also lighter than cream and emulsion. Some like it for the fresh texture.  If you don't mind spending the money, you can use eye gel as face moisturiser.

4.  BOOSTER

Booster is something that is put before the serum/essence to boost the efficiency of the essence/serum.  The texture is generally very light and you will notice that the skincare penetrate into the skin much faster than if you are not using booster. The sequence to use booster for Korean and Western is also different depending on your toner (korean or western toner)

Examples of booster would be Dr. Jart V7 Booster and Dermalogica booster.

5.FLORAL WATER and MIST
Most people would find this confusing whether it is a toner, a booster or a moisturiser.  For me, it is just like the name suggested- water infused with flowers.  One can use this as toner, mist or even moisturiser.  It is really just like water, it can calm the skin and moisturise the skin as it contain glycerine.  However, it is not enough to moisturiser the skin during winter.

6.FINISHER
Okay, In September 2014 there is already the skin finisher which means to be a skincare products which makes the skin looks glow to the point of flawless. It's called a skin finisher because it goes on last (over toner, serums/essence/ and moisturisers) and before your cc cream or foundation. It is used during the day.  It can comes in form or spray or bottle. There are hair finisher but this finisher is for skin and it is already a rave in Korea.  Skin finisher is NOT A PRIMER NOR it is a MAKEUP because the skin finisher seal all the good things about your skincare products into your skin making it super flawless.  According to them, skin finisher is the key to have amazingly dewy skin flawless skin.  Examples of skin finisher would be Sulwhasoo Luminate Essential Finisher, Su:m miracle finisher and many more.


7. PEELING GEL
Peeling gel is actually exfoliator for sensitive skin which is much more gentle than scrubs.  Generally, Korean prefer peeling gel because it helps to exfoliate the skin without the harshness and peeling gel can immediately brighten the skin. Normally, it is use before using a sheet mask for best effect.

7. POWDER PRODUCTS
Brands are coming with powder products because of the airport liquid restrictions so there are many products in powder form.  Some are spot treatment and some are cleansers at the moment.

That are what I know about the current type of skincare products in the market.  The list is sure going to be long and I will update this from time to time.  There are many texture such as jelly, pudding and more texture coming out in the market every second so I know it is going to be more and more confusing next time.  Even the vocabulary list for skincare products are just going longer.  Do forgive me or correct me if I made any mistake in writing this as I wrote it base on my common experience in skincare .

There is faint smell of narcissus flower and it is soothing to my senses.  The smell make me feel calm and refresh my skin.  It think this suits me as the texture is very watery, cooling and it absorb immediately into my skin.  My skin immediately became very soft and moisturise.  I can feel the differences on then hand applied with the Narcissus extraordinary water immediately and compare it to the hand without it.  The very watery texture is just right for my skin =) . Besides, it doesn't break me out.  If I compare this with the Rose Extraordinary Water, I would say this is just perfect for my skin.


The Extraordinary Rose would be more suited for those with mature skin rather than my current skin which is sensitive&acne prone.  Yes, I would say that this Narcissus extraordinary water is extraordinary for my skin because it plump, turn it softer and the effect last long.  Moreover, it is natural and organic.  Currently I am using this for the morning regime =) .

This is the first I tried the famous Melvita floral water.  The Cornflower floral water smelt like Chinese tea with tree bark which I find acceptable. Since it is in form of spray, I will just spray it on my face in the morning especially when I am in a hurry.  It keeps me hydrated but make sure to avoid the eyes and becareful to spray too much on face. I think it is really moisturizing too =) considering the texture is very light-something like water.  Easy for those going for travelling and on the go.  One spray and you can just go out.  People use this as toner but since I am lazy I will use to refresh my face or as moisturiser.  You can even use to set makeup I too.
I am not sure about the brightening effect though since I only tried for few days.

REVIEW ON HISHOP AUGUST BEAUTY BOX

I was so happy and excited waiting for my HiShop August beauty Box.  The box was quite heavy and I opened the box right after i got the box to check what is inside.  Surprise always made me restless and nervous. XD

REVIEW ON BIOTHERM PURE.FECT SKIN RANGE-ANTI-SHINE PURIFYING CLEANSING GEL,MICRO EXFOLIATING PURIFYING TONER&PURE SKIN EFFECT HYDRATING GEL

I was very lucky to win a set of Biotherm product. Biotherm products are consider as those high end brands and I wish I could afford them when i was a student listening to how good these products are. Well, my dreams actually come true. Miss Corrine from Juniper Journal actually pick me as the winner and I got my wish came true =)  .


I have been trying this for around one month.  Before I share my experience with the products, I would just update the condition on my skin.  I have combination(normal on cheeks+ oily on nose) acne prone + sensitive skin. So, what I experience will be different from those with different skin than me.


This is going to be a long post on three of these products.

1. ANTI-SHINE PURIFYING CLEANSING GEL
Direction: Use every morning and evening.
Wet the face with water, pour the gel into the palm of your hand, lather and apply in light dabs all over the face, avoiding eye contours.
Rinse off thoroughly with water and dry. Proceed to apply usual skincare treatment.

This cleanser is meant for normal to oily skin. This cleanser is just gel like and transparent. Be careful when pressing the tube as one need one very little gel liquid to lather up a huge amount of foam. The tube is made with plastic but the wording wouldn’t fade even after so many times of rough handling. Simple and good packaging. The cleanser doesn’t come with a box.

The words at the back of the tube of cleanser are full with French words but lucky the list of ingredients is in English. I got a lousy camera so can’t a take picture of the words. The first two ingredients are aqua and glycerin. It also contains lauric acid, zinc sulfate and Argilla vitreoscilla ferment. These ingredients are beneficial for acne prone skin.


It got a nice relaxing smell and cleans off even my makeup. Don’t let get into the eye area though as it may sting the eyes. My face does feel cleaner and less oiler compare to when I am using the Cetaphil gentle cleanser. It doesn’t dry out the area though or make me breakouts.

2.  MICRO EXFOLIATING PURIFYING TONER
Direction: Use daily, morning and evening, to clean skin. Soak a cotton pad with toner. Smooth the whole face, from middle to outside. Repeat until cotton pad wipes clean.
Dry skin by applying a tissue on face and gently pressing it with both hands to absorb excess liquid.


This toner is meant for combination skin to oily skin. So, don’t use this if you have dry skin because it contains alcohol. Moreover, don’t try to use this as mask as this contains alcohol. I don’t mean to say alcohol is bad but it will just clean the skin from sebum especially those with oily skin. I only use this on my T-zone area and this is really refreshing. It does help to prevent sebum which I think is good.

The bottle is made of plastic with non-fading words. One would have twist the cap (white) like taking out a screw until the cap came out. I think it is troublesome and I still find some toner got spill out if I accidentally drop it to the floor before I twist the cap. Other than, I like the packaging. The toner doesn’t come with a box.  So, inside the toner, there is a plastic sticker than you will remove before using.

The toner smell the same as the cleanser with a hint of alcohol. The smell disappear after applying though.

3.  PURE SKIN EFFECT HYDRATING GEL

Direction: Use every morning and / or evening on cleansed and toned skin. Place one dose into the palm of the hand. Using both hands, smooth over the face in an outward pattern starting from the centre. Finish by the neck. Avoid eye contour.

This moisturizer comes with a box wrap in thin plastic wrapper. The box is really nice and if you open the box, you will realize that there is the plankton design on the inner of the box. It is actually the picture of the Pure Thermal Plankton inside which has the ability to detect impurities and reduce them. Pretty and I just keep the box. I love the design of their moisturizer as the bottle is so cute and easily to hold =). They have the transparent cap to prevent spillage. I think that is thoughtful. The silver part does not fade even after using it for some time. So, no worries of dirtying your hands with silver dust later.

Unlike the ingredient printed on their bottles, the list of ingredients are printed on the box. The first four ingredients are aqua& glycerin, alcohol denat and dimethicone. There is also salicylic acid and zinc sulfate. This moisturiser is meant for combination skin to oily skin. So, don’t use this if you have dry skin as it can be irritating. It is really gel like and disappear into the skin after applying. It does moisturize and hydrate the skin. I find that the mortifying effect only last on my nose for about 6 hours. After that it will show sign of oiliness but still not as oily as if I am not using aything. On, the area that is normal, it is really well hydrated through the day.

The moisturizer smell amazing too =) . I find that the moisturizer does help to reduce the pimples or problematic area. I had pimples/acne because I couldn’t sleep well so I broke out. This does help to control the problem. I think those with combination skin would love this gel like texture.

Overall, I think this range is more suitable for oily skin than skin like mine. I still use them though but only in the morning when I need oil control and acne prevention =). It can be quite drying to my skin if I use it day and night. These products help with the acne prevention and oil control.

If you are unsure, you can buy their trial kit which only cost RM40 for 3 products that contain 20ml each. It is not expensive at all. I got this information from Juniper Journal.

REVIEW ON MONTAGNE JEUNESSE DE CLOGGED PORES STRIPS

there are three of these inside the one pack.

HERE IS THE INSTRUCTION on how to use them
Remove pore strip from inner pouch. Wash face and leave nose wet. Remove strip from backing & dampen smooth side of pore strip. Apply damp side of pore strip to nose and press down for contact. Leave to dry for 10-15 minutes, carefully remove from edges and peel off.

Use strip immediately once opened. Do not use on any other areas of the face or body and do not use on broken skin. Do not use pore strips more than 3 times in any one week. Remove strip promptly when stiff, if difficult to remove do not pull, re-wet and gently peel off. Keep out of reach of children.

Inside the packet, there is about three strips which are individually seals.  The nose packet in "paste" on a plastic and it easy to peal them off and paste it on the nose. The nose pack is in form of soft paper and it will turn hard once it dry up.  Then peel them of.  Since i don't have much problem with blackheads, i tried it on my family members.

So here is the results.  I am not using my nose as my blackheads is not that obvious on my lousy camera.

Removing the peel was really easy and not painful at all.  I can see those blackheads on it.  Not showing the peel with the blackheads on cause it will gross you out.  It does help remove those blackheads but not whiteheads.  I guess it is hard to remove whiteheads.
