REVIEW ON BORYEONG MUD COSMETICS

Mud is one of the beauty ingredients for skincare products.  The famous Boryeong Mud Festival is held annually in July and many went to the Daecheon Beach and Boryeong City just to enjoy the benefits of mud on their skin.

The five richest mud of the world : Canadian East coast, American East coast, the North Sea, Amazon river basin, Boryeong Mud from Seoul.

KOREAN MUD STORY

Mud has been made by soil, salts and degradation product of animals and plants that had been accumulated for a long time getting geological, chemical action and microorganism's disintegration.
For this reason, mud has lots of mineral and microelements like carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, iron, silicate compound.
Also, not only it includes organic matter and hormone analog like prolan and estrogen but also it has abundance of pieces of vitamin like thiamine, ascorbic acid, folic acid and vitaminB12.

Because of this mud's ingredients, first of all mud has a lot of mineral matter, it can make a spa effect and can make a cure effect for the circulation or metabolism of body and nervous system.
Also mud has gluey component(colloid) and a crystalline component, these can be used broadly as a physical cure method, such as a sand bath, bathing in mineral water and sea bathing.
Besides it is known as outstanding effect for trauma therapy because of the antimicrobial and sterilization effect.

Boryeong Mud Cleansing Foam
Boryeong Mud Cleansing Foam

The Elasah cream is transparent and light gel .  You need to gently massage it until water drops form or feels like it has turn into water, and lightly pat skin to increase absorption. A thin film will be form to retain moisture all day long.  It is meant for dry skin type.

The Boryeong Mud Pack has a grey colour and smooth texture to it.  Application is really easy.  The mud dries down to light grey and easily wash of.  The skin does feel cleaner and less redness overall.

Boryeong Mud Beauty Soap smells very much like mud as it doesn't contain any other fragrance.  It foams up but not much but you don't need the foam to clean the skin.  The soap cleanses my skin well and it is not drying.

Boryeong Mud Cleansing Foam has a pearly light pink colour to it.  One only need about a pea size as it foam up really well and cleanses the skin well.  It sure smells floral which is nice too =O

As for the shampoo, conditioner, body cleanser and lotion(toner) since I can only use them once, I can only tell you that they smell nice and doesn't irritate my skin.

Among all the items I have tried, Boryeong Mud pack and the Boryeong Beauty soap are products to look at if you are interested in Boryeong magical power of mud.

LINDEN LEAVES NATURAL SKINCARE MIRACULOUS FACIAL OIL

The facial is truly miraculous for those having really dry skin when other ingredients just sting the skin. One or two drops of facial oil is enough to moisturise the whole face.  My face also look really glowing when I use it it.

The oil has yellowish clear colour.  It is also thicker than tea tree oil but more moisturising on ageing skin and leave 'glow' on the skin without being greasy.

LINDEN LEAVES NATURAL SKINCARE MIRACULOUS FACIAL OIL

If you are using prescription and generally find everything else not moisturising enough, then do look into oils for they are knows to help balance the oil/water on dry skin that is beneficial to dry ageing skin.  It is not true that oil cause acne.  I have been using oils and there is no sign of it clogging the skin unless you use the wrong oil for your skin type or you are allergic to all sort of oils.

It is also a cost effective product since you only need one or two drops for the whole face.

Tips: Do not put oil into the fridge or you will spoil the benefits.

REVIEW ON ETTANG CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)

Soft glowing skin just like you went to spa?  It is time to take out those rubber masks!

Rubber mask or called modeling mask is the current craze for soft clean skin! I was very lucky that I managed to find it after seeing it on one of the beauty shows and beauty forum. The price is really reasonable too for such good result.

What I have here is the Korean modeling mask Ettang modeling mask take out cup which is really popular in Korea and in memebox.
ETTANG CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)
Ettang Calendula Modeling Mask Take-out Cup

Ettang Calendula Modeling Mask Take-out Cup

There are actually 9 types of Ettang modelling masks so choose one for your skin types.

Yogurt – Smooth skin texture, Bright skin tone, Glossy skin
Peppermint – Skin soothing, Skin refreshment, Skin conditioning
Acerola – Bright skin tone, Astringent effect, Skin elasticity
Propolis – Nutrition supply, Skin’s protective film, Problematic skin soothing
Chlorella – Complexion purification, Skin improvement, Skin soothing
Oatmeal – Rich moisturization, Nutrition supply, Keratin care
Calendula – Sensitive skin, Skin relief, Skin moisturization
Paper Mulberry- skin resilience, lighten skin tone, intensive hydration
Charcoal- Complexion purification, oil/moisture balance, nutrition balance

Collagen: smooth skin texture, skin elasticity, Nutrition supply

for acne: charcoal, chlorella and propolis

for glow: yogurt, paper mulberry, collagen, acerola
cooling or sunburnt:calendula &peppermint

Red and dry patchy skin on your face?

Ettang Calendula Modeling Mask soothes redness and inflamed skin - from acne, sunburn, dry skin and etc. Hydrates and protect the skin. Helps with skin healing as well.
Product Features
-Capacity: 17g
-It's not added with paraben, a chemical preservative. It's a naturalism product containing natural aroma oil.
-As the pack dries like rubber, it soothes the skin, provides moisture, and firms up face line and makes the face elastic.
-It helps smooth skin texture, bright skin tone, glossy skin

HOW TO USE:
1.Add water into the modeling mask cup, up to about half of the cup.
2. Mix well with the spatula included in the cup - until it becomes a thick paste.
3.Spread a thick layer onto the face - starting with the cheek, chin, forehead and end with the nose.
4.Leave it on for about 15 - 20 minutes before gently lifting the mask off.
5.Rinse off if any residue is left behind, with warm water. Continue with regular skin care routine-
ampoule, serum/essence, and moisturizer.

Recommended once or twice weekly use, to boost and clear skin.

Some little useful pointers:
Tip #1 - Add water gradually, little by little to the cup over about 2 - 3 times until your desired consistency is achieved.
Tip #2 - The modeling mask mixture, hardens quite rapidly - So, after mixing, apply straight to the face.
Tip #3 - Spread the mixture, thicker towards the edge of the face, so it can be lifted easily.

Ingredients:
Diatomaceous Earth, calcium sulfate, algin, glucose, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, potassium alginate, allantoin, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, calendula officinalis flower extract, cellulose gum, sodium benzoate, adenosine, fragrance

ETTANG CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)
Ettang Calendula Modeling Mask Take-out Cup
What I have here is the Calendula as my skin is sensitive and acne prone. The spatula comes inside the cup. There is also a plastic cap for those that want to separate the mask into two usages. However, that is not really recommended as thicker mask produce better results.
ETTANG CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)
Ettang Calendula Modeling Mask Take-out Cup

The powder for Calendula is white. The colour of the cup follows the types of ingredients it has. So, the white powder will turn slight yellowish once it is mix with water.

ETTANG CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)
ETTANG  CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)
I followed the useful tips and so here is my mixture of mask. Add the water gradually until you achieve a thick consistency. Don't add too much.  The ratio is like 17g:17ml if you want a watery consistency.  According to a friend, she said the ratio is supposed to be 3:2 which means add 11g of water for a good best modelling mask =) .

It is called rubber because it contains elastomer.  The alginate is the one that cause the mask to become rubber. I had checked the ingredients and all the ingredients are safe for the skin and will not harm the skin so it is suitable for even sensitive skin type.

ETTANG CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)
ETTANG  CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)
Okay, I look like some sort of monster with dripping solution on my face.  You can use this for monster costume since Halloween is the end of this month. XP

ETTANG CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)
ETTANG  CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)
Try to apply as soon as the mixture is ready. It will get harden a little by little and thus the ugly texture will turn up on the face.  Easier to apply if you have those big spatula too.  I am using the spatula that comes inside the cup XP  .

ETTANG CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)
ETTANG  CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)

It will turn rubbery once it dry up after 20 minutes.  Then, peel it off from the face.

Here is the result

Do you notice the glow?

ETTANG CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)
ETTANG  CALENDULA MODELING MASK TAKE-OUT CUP (RUBBER MASK)

My skin feels really clean, soft and hydrated. It looks like I just went for a spa.  It is really fun for a mask party or even preparing for a special day.

Overall, a good choice for you who do not have the time to go for spa or just simply want to have a DIY spa at home. Your wallet and skin will thank you.

There is only two kind of coffee serve here so do not ask for all those other fancy names or you will the blank look of the owner.  It is either cold or warm coffee so don't ask for latte, mix coffee with tea, mocha, americano and etc.

I love the coffee since it is serve is traditional ceramic cup that really reminds me of the old days (I am not that old) .  The coffee has the right sweetness and it just goes into the throat leaving the smell of aromatic coffee beans trails behind =)  .  Ah, the good old days.

Sorry that I am not sure how much it cost since it was like 3months ago.  It is not over RM5 for a cup of coffee and bread.  I am shy to ask how much each things cost since they operate by calculating everything together and there is no receipt.  XP

REVIEW ON THURSDAY PLANTATION TEA TREE OIL

Tea tree oil is a familiar ingredient for acne prone skin or called trouble skin.  It is a very important ingredients for someone looking for natural approaches and for oily skin type.

If you have oily skin with acne problems then tea tree oil is actually useful.  It has actually been years since I tried tea tree oil but I have finally decided to try Thursday Plantation.  In the past, I tried some other brands that has tea tree products before.

THURSDAY PLANTATION TEA TREE OIL

Here is the box.

Here is the instructions on how to use it.

THURSDAY PLANTATION TEA TREE OIL

THURSDAY PLANTATION TEA TREE OIL
THURSDAY PLANTATION TEA TREE OIL
The brown glass bottle is to prevent changes to the ingredients.  Tea tree can be oxidized by air and also light.  It is 100% pure because tea tree doesn't need any preservatives since the oil is antimicrobial and antifungal.
THURSDAY PLANTATION TEA TREE OIL
THURSDAY PLANTATION TEA TREE OIL
I like that there is a stopper to prevent leaking and to avoid accidentally pouring everything out when we only need few drops.

Tea tree oil has a strong fresh camphor smell to it. It has clear yellowish watery texture and colour.

Tea tree oil is actually very much potent in its undiluted form.  If you have sensitive skin, do applied moisturiser after that or else be prepared to feel the 'burn', dryness or irritation.  My skin turn red if I don't apply anything after that.  Alternative mix it with moisturiser before applying it to your face.

I also mix it with green tea to make toner and mist.

A reader, Luscious shared her beauty tips that is mixing tea tree with ylang ylang.  Too bad, it is hard for me to find ylang ylang in my country =(  . If you could find it, then try it because ylang ylang is very calming to the skin.

I find that tea tree oil does help to shrink those pimples.  Getting the oil is more useful since there are many ways to use it.  Besides applying directly on face, you can use it for DIY tea tree masks, mix it with shampoo to treat dandruff, to avoid mosquitoes and create your own mixture with other oil.

A must to have in every hold =).

Do not eat tea tree oil as it is toxic for consumption.

Do not use it:
-While pregnant or breast-feeding without medical supervision
-Near eyes. Seek medical attention if contact occurs
-On children under 2 years old
-Undiluted essential oils on children under 12 years old. Skin patch test prior to use.

L’OCCITANE CHARITY FUNDRAISING FOR THE BLIND INITIATIVE 2015/2016

L’OCCITANE and the L’OCCITANE Foundation have been working hand in hand with many organisations that are dedicated to fighting blindness. Did you know that there are almost 285 million blind or visually-impaired people throughout the world? However, the shocking thing is that 80% of blindness is actually preventable! This problem is especially apparent in low- or medium-income countries, where 90% of the visually-impaired live. So far, more than 1,500,000 people have benefitted from eye care thanks to L’OCCITANE’s efforts to support the blind and visually-impaired.

L’OCCITANE CHARITY FUNDRAISING FOR THE BLIND INITIATIVE 2015/2016

Just like the sighted, the blind and visually-impaired should have equal access to everything, including knowledge, facilities and even personal beauty products and toiletries. All of L’OCCITANE’s product packaging comes with Braille text, which enables them to obtain the best of beauty in its natural state. Everyone deserves the opportunity and convenience to enjoy the feeling of being pampered, and in line with the brand’s philanthropy, L’OCCITANE recognises the importance of making life easier for the visually-impaired.

Beginning from year 2011, L’OCCITANE also presents the L’OCCITANE Sight Award, which awards 50,000 € once every 2 years to an ophthalmologist for his or her research work in contributing to the fight against avoidable blindness in developing countries. In 2011, the award was given to professor Volker Klauss for his work in Africa. In April 2014, the second L’OCCITANE Sight Award was attributed to Dr. Clare Gilbert, which helped to fund eye screenings of 10,000 children in Bangladesh.

On a local front, L’OCCITANE Malaysia began its charity for the blind initiative in 2008 to give back to the local community. The brand works closely with the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) to help improve the lives of the blind and visually-impaired in Malaysia. Since year 2013/2014, L’OCCITANE has also added St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang, to its list of beneficiaries.

In conjunction with International World Sight Day on 8 October 2015, L’OCCITANE Malaysia is organising its signature charity campaign for its 7th year running. This year’s theme, “The Fight Against Avoidable Blindness”, will involve raising funds for MAB and St. Nicholas’ Home. The funds will be channelled into conducting eye screenings and prescribing glasses for those who require attention, among others. Through this initiative, L’OCCITANE Malaysia also hopes to create greater awareness on the roles played by the L’OCCITANE Foundation and L’OCCITANE Malaysia in sight-related charity projects, so that all Malaysians will know more about the causes.

This year’s fundraising initiative will benefit the Ipoh branch of MAB. Located in Kinta Valley, the centre helps many individuals from the low-income sector such as farmers, who have limited access to hospitals and are not exposed to information on eye disease and the prevention of blindness. Eye screenings will be performed on: a) elderly people who have cataracts, and advice for cataract surgery will be provided; b) children between 5 – 17 years old who have refractive errors, where spectacles will be prescribed to improve their vision; and c) students with low vision problems who will be prescribed with Telescopic Magnifiers or Pebble Magnifiers.

For St. Nicholas’ Home, the funds will be used to provide eye screenings for at least 500 students in rural areas, including pre-schools. At least 100 people from the low-income group will also receive free spectacles or intra-ocular lenses that help to correct their vision. As for the general public, awareness will be created by organising exhibitions and talks on eye care in schools and community centres. Last but not least, St. Nicholas’ Home will organise workshops and training for community workers, medical staff and teachers on the importance of eye screening as well as other vision-related issues.

Every year, L’OCCITANE Malaysia introduces a solidarity fundraising product. This product is then sold in L’OCCITANE boutiques throughout the campaign period, and all the profits gained will go to selected local NGOs to support the visually-impaired in various ways.

Mr. Tan Seong Teck, Director of L’OCCITANE Malaysia, expressed his thoughts on L’OCCITANE’s charity efforts. “Year 2015 marks our 7th year of organising our annual fundraising campaign. It’s become one of L’OCCITANE Malaysia’s signature events, and every year, the response is extremely positive. At L’OCCITANE, we aspire to be more than just a beauty brand that makes and sells products. Our founder, Mr. Olivier Baussan, has long-believed that the values of authenticity, respect and sensoriality should be applied in real life, especially in the sense of helping those who are less fortunate. To date, we’ve raised a total of RM233,240.00 (two hundred thirty three and two hundred forty thousand) which has been channelled to NGOs in Malaysia to help the blind and visually-impaired. Furthermore, we’re very lucky to have customers and fans of L’OCCITANE who also uphold these wonderful values. Together, we’re able to make a difference, and that’s what counts. I urge everyone to join L’OCCITANE Malaysia in “The Fight Against Avoidable Blindness” and make a difference for the blind and visually-impaired.”

L’OCCITANE Malaysia’s fundraising initiative 2015/2016 will run from 7 October to 31 December 2015. The special-edition Shea Foot Cream & Tin Box set (30ml, RM41) will be available at all L’OCCITANE boutiques nationwide.

Batiste swept the world with its dry shampoo!

Thank goodness for the creation of dry shampoo.  Dry shampoo makes it easy for travel and saving the time of washing and drying the hair every day.  My hair gets greasy fast even if it is just after two hours of washing.  It will just go limp.  Since I am away from places like Kuala Lumpur, I went online searching for the best price and I found it!  Do check it at the bottom if you want to know where I bought it.

So, here is a review on Batiste XXL dry shampoo.

This is XXL is not for dry hair type because it does make the hair feels drier.  There is silica and talc so that is one of the reason that this absorb the grease better.  However, it sure suits oily and greasy scalp.

BATISTE XXL VOLUME DRY SHAMPOO
AFTER  BATISTE XXL VOLUME DRY SHAMPOO

It feels cooling when you spray it which is nice for such hot weather in Malaysia.  It does make my hair looks bigger just as I had just blow dry my hair.  Best thing is the effect stays for few hours !  Finally, big hair =) .  This is especially useful for someone like me whose hair just turn limp after washing.

It smell nice too since it has light floral scent. Love the scent.

Batiste has other version such as the Batiste "Clean & Classic Original" which is more suitable for pregnant women and mother in confinement.  This is because there is less ingredients.  By the way, I have already check that there is no harmful ingredients in there that can potentially harm your skin or baby. So it is safe to use.

There are two other types for dyed hair that can help cover the roots which is useful for those who dyed their hair and just want to temporarily cover the roots.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ASIAN AND WESTERN SKINCARE PRODUCTS

Skincare products and cosmetics are part of beauty regime. With so many choices, it is not easy to make choices. I was introduced to western products in the past and also Asian brands. I think most of the time; I was going between western and also cosmetics products so I figured that I could voice my thought on this.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ASIAN AND WESTERN SKINCARE PRODUCTS

Western skincare VS Asian skincare

I think there are many brands from different western countries and seriously I have not used them all. However, I can say that there are differences between skincare from France, US, New Zealand, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand. There are also differences between the organic, drugstores and also department brands. All I could say is not everything is organic and  expensive brands does not guarantee that it is good. Also not all cheap drugstore brands are lousy.

As for Asian skincare products there are differences between skincare from Korea, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia and China. Again, I should not say that I had tried all of those products. I will not say everything that comes from Asia are good because I had tried some that broke me out or just doesn’t fit my skin type.

I notice that most Asian will start with using product from drugstores and ‘upgrade’ it to more expensive brands once they start working or when they have the money. It is also common for Asian to be using western products that are popular with the mass.

I think the drastic differences between Asian skincare products and Western skincare products are:

Choices for variety of skincare types

-I think Korean products really have a lot of skincare products for many skincare types. You can get moisturiser for acne prone, dry skin, big pores, sensitive and for age 30 years old.

I can’t get that from western products because most of the products produced are just for oily, teenagers’ skin type. I will break out even more if I use the wrong products.

There are skincare products market for certain skin types, age and concern. So, that makes it easier for me to find products according to my skin and problems.

Price

Many will say Asian skincare products are cheaper than Western skincare products. It is Yes and NO. Just like Western department brands and drugstore brands, it goes the same for Asian skincare products. Some of the brands like SKII, Sulwhasoo, Whoo and etc are high end brands that are priced the same if not equal like some western brands.

It is just that I will say there are more qualities products even among the cheaper brand like Nature Republic, Skinmiso, Thefaceshop,Innisfree, Secret Key, Missha and etc because of the competitions among the brands. So, we as the consumers can get good quality products even from roadshop brands.

Packaging

Western brands do not have fancy packaging because most of the time, the quality of the product is what matters and that with really sleek looking packaging comes with high cost as well. However, with competition from the East, I think many western brands has step up their game to look into their packaging now.

Asian brands especially Korean has such cute packaging that we felt sad to even throw away those boxes away which also makes their products really appealing to consumers like us. Who are not tempted by packaging by Etude House, Tony Moly and History of Whoo? So pretty.

Texture

I think there are many texture in the Asian skincare products than in the West. There is pudding, gel, foam, serum, mist, jelly, mochi and cream form of skincare products that I think it is impossible for one not able to find the type that they like.

Also the reason that there are so many names for different skincare products that it was so confusing if you are new to Asian skincare products. It doesn’t stick to their skincare products but also their sunscreen which has so many texture that one am surely lost at what to buy.

Western products are easier to choose from but because of it also, you do not much choice. I could say western cream is really much heavier than Korean cream. Most of the sunscreen also has heavier texture which I don’t really like.

However, I won’t say that all Asian skincare products are amazing or all are better than Western skincare products.

It is just matter of reading up the ingredients and avoid those that can potentially gives you allergy.

Innovations and trends
The trends and innovations really moved fast in Asian so the companies has to really churn out products that are really innovative and works wonderful for most skin types.  Thanks to that also we have so many products such as the snail’ cream, bb cream, cc cream, cushion and dupe for western products that really work wonderfully at affordable price.  Even sheet masks has been upgraded to cellulose and hydrogel masks.
Trends move really fast to entice and to fulfill the demands for skincare products here.  Most aim for beautiful skin than buying the latest makeup products here.  So, I think that is why there are more skincare products than makeup here in Asia.

Overall, I think there are things I like about Asian and Western skincare products.  Here is several recommendation that I will suggest you to look in you are interested to try Asian skincare products or just to add into your skincare regime or compare to western skincare products.

Asian skincare products

Japanese sunscreen or one made for Japanese- these are usually has very light texture and not clogging.

Korean Moisturiser for acne and summer- there are many types of moisturizers that are can fit skin types, age and also skincare concern.  However, if you want moisturiser for winter, look for western one because I find Asian moisturiser too light even if it is said for dry skin and not enough to moisturize the peeling skin.

Taiwanese and Korean sheet masks-there are many choices, cheap and works better than western one.

Dupe products:  There are many really famous dupe products such as dupe of Estee Lauder, dupe of SKII that have even better ingredients and it is more affordable.

Sleeping masks- these are really famous for the moisturizing properties and many leave the skin really moisturize.

Toner- generally Asian toner are better than Western toner. I find Asian toner more hydrating and less harsh on my skin.

Acne products-there is many products out there for every acne skin type and age which make it easier to choose.  Also it is less drying on skin. I will say look for moisturiser, toner and spot products for acne prone from famous Korean brands.

Brightening&whitening products-  Many are shocked that we want to 'whiten' our skin.  Actually it is more like having porcelain fair skin.  Asian dislike going darker than their natural skin colour.  The fairer the better actually.  So, whitening and brightening products are always in trend and more develop in Asian since there is always demand of light texture, pores reducing and gentle to the skin.

As for Western skincare products

Cleansers- I prefer the natural gel texture that is really different from Asian foam cleanser that doesn’t really suit my skin.  I think Western gentle cleanser are more PH balance that Asian cleanser.  Besides, the innovate Micellar cleansers started from the French brand Bioderma which I still do love.

Clay&mud mask-I think the clay&mud masks made by Western brands are stronger in terms of the effect on my skin.

Cream for winter-Western cream sure has thicker texture and more suitable for winter.  It is the one I will look for when my skin is too dry.

Oil- There is many oil products and essential oil that I do adore from the Western brand.  I guess it is because the effect of oil on my skin makes me have preference towards Western skincare products if I want to buy oil products.

Organic products- I love many of the organic brands but of course it is more expensive but it is more gentle and hydrating to my skin.

So, I think that is what I think about Western and Asian skincare products.  I will talk about Western VS Asian makeup products in another post since this is already too long.  Hopefully you will find this helpful.  If you are unsure of Asian skincare products do visit this link Here
